Arranged or Love?

The thoughts are my own and not meant to oppose or hurt anyone else's views. So I don't expect a counter argument as a comment :-)

If you wish to oppose, please write an article in your blog.

Here goes my take on Arranged v/s Love marriages.

Arranged marriage query :-

SELECT *
FROM
list_of_eligible_bachelors
WHERE
age > :bride_age -- the bride's age should always be less than the bridegroom
AND bank_balance > :an_exorbitant_amount
AND own_a_house_flag = 'Y'
AND own_a_car_flag = 'Y'
AND exists (SELECT 1 FROM best_horoscopes
WHERE bachelor_id = list_of_eligible_bachelors.bachelor_id)
AND salary > :bride_salary
-- Very important clause, cannot do away with this condition
AND religion = :religion_of_bride
AND caste = :caste_of_bride
AND sub_caste = :subcaste_of_bride
AND ........................ -- Conditions to be added in the subsequent releases

Love marriage query :-

SELECT *
FROM
list_of_eligible_men
WHERE
good_qualities = 'Y'
AND match_tastes = 'Y'
AND ROWNUM < 2

PS : I'm an Oracle application developer :-)

Note: Comments based on real life incidents of other ppl. Still the results may vary. :)

1) If SELECT is considered to be one of the IDU statements, it would be like this:

Arranged:

SELECT (the guy)
COMMIT;

Love:

SELECT (the guy)
ROLLBACK;
SELECT (another guy)
ROLLBACK;
SELECT (yet another guy)
ROLLBACK;
..
..
COMMIT?

2) Though the Love marriage query looks simple, the two attributes 'good_qualities' and 'match_tastes' are derived and "impossible" to calculate.

UPDATE gal.match_tastes = 'Y'
WHERE guy.bank_balance = 'Great'
AND guy.type = 'MR. Nice Guy'
AND gal.parents = 'OK with love marriage'
AND guy.looks = 'handsome'
AND guy.intelligence = 'smart'
...

UPDATE guy.good_qualities = 'Y'
WHERE guy.pays_bills = 'Y'
AND guy.takes_orders = 'Y'
AND guy.listens_more = 'Y'
AND guy.gals_cat_likes_him = 'Y'
AND guy.gal_no_cooking = 'OK'
AND guy.gives_gal_independence = 'Y'
AND guy.not_possessive = 'Y'
AND guy.buys_gifts_often = 'Y'
AND guy.says_sorry_often = 'Y'
AND guy.always_his_fault = 'Y'
...

2 cents of my knowledge ;-)

:) Good one.. and good comments on it too.. Specially Vijay\'s...:)

Well.. I am not a developer anymore, so cant write in that language.. otherwise you would\'ve been treated to some exquisite C code talking to the Kernel and deciding which is better - Love or Arranged...:)

As for me - arranged marriage comes with its own set of advantages... love has its own. The best way to have wonderful life is to club both of them.
Get your love arranged or love your arranged...:)

What say?:);)

*Me pondering as to what mine is!!!*
